11th RSG-Türkiye Student Symposium
Clinical Bioinformatics, Drug Delivery & NGS Workflows
Speakers
Dr. Mehmet Baysan
Faculty Member, Computer Engineering · Istanbul Technical University / BaysanLab
After obtaining his B.S. from Bilkent University in Computer Science in 2003, Dr. Baysan completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas in 2005 and 2008, respectively. In 2010, Dr. Baysan shifted his research focus to computational biology as a post-doctoral fellow at the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the NIH, USA. Following his fellowship, he worked at the NYU Cancer Institute and later at Weill Cornell Medical College as an Associate Research Scientist. He is currently a faculty member in the Computer Engineering Department at Istanbul Technical University. Since 2010, his research has centered on advancing our understanding of disease genomics using computational tools, including COSAP (Comparative NGS Data Analysis Platform) and the Turkey Genome Project.

LinkedInThe 11th RSG-Türkiye Student Symposium was held on 15 – 16 November 2024 at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Art Center in Pendik, Istanbul. It was the first the RSG-Türkiye team organised entirely on its own, rather than as a satellite meeting to HIBIT.
Highlights
- Keynote I: Prof. Dr. Gökhan Kaçar on molecular dynamics simulations of nanoscale drug carrier systems
- Keynote II: Dr. Mehmet Baysan on data science and clinical bioinformatics (COSAP, Turkey Genome Project)
- Workshop: Dr. Kübra Narcı on building reproducible bioinformatics pipelines with Nextflow and nf-core
- Panel Discussion: Clinical Bioinformatics Startups, From Idea to Market
- Biostatistics Session: Prof. Dr. Handan Ankaralı
- Student Talks (×3) and Poster Session & Networking
